Kalo in Hawaiian culture is a representation of life. From farm to table, the kalo plant has been a means of survival in Hawai‘i for centuries. We’ve paired the lau of the kalo with the shape of a heart. Merging our island’s greatest representation of life with the modern representation of love.
Nā Wāhine:
We’ve researched, took photo’s, drawn, edited, re-edited, and re-re-edited until we found the perfect shape that both represents the lau of the kalo and the shape of a heart. The design perfectly blends both symmetry and the abstract-organic nature of plants.
Nā Kāne:
While nā wāhine will love the delicate shape of the heart, we knew our masculine customers needed a different approach. We’ve blended the outlined heart with our bolded text logo to create a kalo leaf interweave. The subtlety of the lines of the leaf allow for the text to be legible, while still displaying the kalo.
Inspiration:
The most important part of this design is the inspiration from God’s word. 1 John 4:16 states “We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.”
People respond differently to God’s love. Some respond in doubt - “Can God really love me?” Some respond by taking His love for granted - “God loves me, so I can do what I like!”. But we are called to “Live in love & Live in God.” Life will be more beautiful, powerful, and purposeful when we live in the love of God, and allow His love to overflow out of us! Have you been taking God’s love for granted? Maybe things have been rough, and you don’t see God’s love in your life? Let these words from Paul the Apostle in Romans 8:38-39 ring true for you!
“I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John writes, “we know how much God loves us.” Be encouraged that you can be confident in God’s love for you. Yes you! He knew your name before you were born. He knows the number of hairs on your po‘o. He knows the deepest darkest depths of your heart, and loves you the same. Life is more beautiful when we live in the love of God!
