Hau
Hau is a familiar sight throughout Hawai‘i, growing along coastlines, streams, and lowland areas. Known for its heart-shaped leaves and flowers that shift from yellow to bright red as the day passes, hau has long been valued for both its beauty and usefulness. Its strong, flexible fibers were traditionally used for cordage, carrying nets, and other everyday necessities.
