The inspiration for one of our best selling tees, the M12:30, comes from Mark 12:30.
"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment."
"E aloha ʻoe iā Iēhova i kou Akua, me kou naʻau a pau, a me kou ʻuhane a pau, a me kou manaʻo a pau, a me kou ikaika a pau; ʻo ia ke kānāwai i ʻoi."
In this section of the Bible the religious leaders of the time were questioning Jesus. These corrupt religious leaders were trying to find some way to maintain their political power and destroy the incredible following Jesus had gained. A scribe asked Jesus, “Which is the first commandment of all?” He was testing Jesus to see if He would show disregard or neglect for some area of the Old Testament Law. His hope was to use Jesus’ own answer against him, but the Messiah was too wise.
Jesus answered not by promoting one law above another, but by encompassing the entire Old Testament Law into one small word. “Love”. He told the scribe to Love God with everything you got, and love your neighbor as yourself.
1 Corinthians 13 says that you could have every spiritual gift, have faith to move mountains, give all you have to the poor, but if it's done without love, it's worthless.
The Aloha we have starts with Aloha ke Akua, Love for God. Love for your Father in heaven is the foundation that allows you to love those around you. Following God’s law is simple, Love with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
E aloha ‘oe iā Iēhova i kou Akua, Love the Lord your God!
